God Rescues a Refugee
In 1995, Vanessa and her family escaped persecution in Burundi (next to Rwanda). They lost their business, their possessions, and their relatives. Wrecked and on the run, they landed in the Kingdom of Swaziland. Despite having fled their civil war, they were still caught up in the kingdom of darkness.
Starting all over, God still wasn’t a priority. She was raised in a broken home, alcoholism, fights, and various religious beliefs.
In 2011, a door to door evangelist came knocking on their door, presented the Gospel, spoke purpose into their lives, and the Holy Spirit took over! Vanessa and her family got born again, entering the kingdom of Light! She began reading her Bible and was amazed at how bad she really was and how good God really is and how much He really loves her. All she wanted was more of God in her life.
In 2012, Vanessa was an intern at Global Leadership Academy (GLA), where she could deepen her faith and pursue more of what God has in store for her. Kay was her one-on-one accountability partner. Vanessa would share and ask questions she couldn’t ask anyone else. Kay would teach her how to grow in her intimacy with the Lord through prayer and quiet times.
This year, Vanessa has been hired as full-time staff at GLA. Especially since Kay transitioned to be a stay-at-home-mom, Vanessa has picked up extra responsibilities. Her roles include helping with school outreach, administration, dorm mom, housekeeping announcements, and her own one-on-one accountability interns that she gets to disciple.
Vanessa’s prayer request: “I want more of the Lord in my life.”
Praise the Lord for the new Vanessa! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Thank you for your prayers, your support, and your love.
